In early 1990, the Hong Kong Government
launched the territory-wide "Quality Awareness Campaign through the Hong Kong
Industrial Department. The Hong Kong Housing Authority (HKHA), a key client of Shui On, in
turn stipulated in April the same year that all their approved building contractors would
have to implement a quality system in accordance with ISO 9002 before they could tender on
HKHA's projects after 31 March 1993.
Shui
On responded positively and quickly by establishing
a Quality Management Committee to head up the development,
implementation and certification effort. On 18 June
1992, SOBC became the first building contractor to achieve
ISO 9002 certification in Hong
Kong. Since then, Shui On has also obtained ISO
9002 certificates for other subsidiary companies.
Shui On fully understands that quality should be more than
just good systems and procedures. It should be a way of life in the organization as
outlined in Shui On's Corporate Mission
Statement, formulated in 1984.To further instill the corporate philosophy of being
customer focused and the corporate culture of constantly striving for excellence after
SOBC's ISO certification, Shui On launched its Total Quality
Management (TQM) efforts in 1993. TQM in Shui On represents a commitment to satisfying
customer needs through motivated employees and continuous improvement.
Shui
On's continuous drive for quality and excellence has
resulted in numerous awards and recognition, including
HKHA's Contractor of the Year Award in 1995 and 1996,
Best Building Works Contractor award in HKHA's annual
Site Safety Campaign for seven consecutive years since
1992, and a Certificate of Merit at Hong Kong's inaugural
Quality Building Award for one of its construction projects
in 2002.
