The scheme is one of the core parts of the EPD's Indoor Air Quality Management Programme and aims to recognise good IAQ management practices and provide incentives for premises owners and property management companies to pursue the best level of IAQ. Under the scheme, "Excellent Class" and "Good Class" certifications are awarded to premises/buildings. Besides Shui On Centre, only one other non-commercial building has obtained the "Excellent Class" Certification to date.

Mr Wilfred Wong said, "As a responsible corporate citizen, Shui On has always put great emphasis on environmental protection, and we make it an essential part of our daily operations. Since many of our tenants and colleagues spend most of their working time in Shui On Centre, it has always been our priority to maintain air quality of the highest standard here."

Back in 2001, Shui On Centre already attained Level 1 indoor air quality standard set by the EPD. "When the EPD introduced the voluntary Air Quality Management Programme in September 2003, we immediately joined the programme and were delighted that we're the first commercial building to obtain the excellent class certificate," added Mr Wong.

In order to maintain Level 1 indoor air quality standard set by the Environmental Protection Department, the company has taken a range of regular maintenance measures, which include increasing the frequency of cleaning and changing air filters, cleaning of air ventilation equipment, and designating the premises as non-smoking office, as well as strict control and monitor of air pollution created by interior fitting out works.

SOCPM, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Shui On Group, provides comprehensive property management services to Shui On Centre. The Group's property management arm also includes Shui On Properties Management Limited (SOPM), which provides property management service to private housing estates, shopping centers, commercial premises, factory buildings and carparks. SOPM is an approved property management agent on the lists of the Government Property Agency and the Housing Authority, specialising in the management and maintenance of residential and commercial premises.
