(Hong
Kong, 29 April 2004) Shui On Building Contractors
Limited (SOBC) and Shui On Construction Limited (SOC),
both subsidiaries of Shui On Construction and Materials
Limited (SOCAM; stock code: 0983), have won various awards
in the "Construction Industry Safety Award Scheme 2003/2004"
organised by the Labour Department. The Redevelopment
of Lam Tin Estate Phase 6 has received Bronze Award under
the category of "Building Sites (Public Contract)" while
four construction sites have also obtained Merit Awards
in the same category. Besides, the Redevelopment of Castle
Peak Hospital Redevelopment Phase II Stage 2 has won Silver
Award while three other sites have bagged Merit Awards
under the category of "Safety Team" (see attachment for
details). The scheme aims to increase the awareness of
occupational safety and health, enhance the safety culture
and encourage good practices in this area.

Shui On always strives to provide a safe and healthy
working environment to its staff by constantly reviewing
its work procedures and methods. The company also conducts
frequent training and promotions to raise employees'
awareness of occupational health and safety issues.
Through the concerted efforts of its management, site
staff, subcontractors and their workers, the overall
accident rate in SOCAM's construction sites in the first
three quarters of 2003 was only 15.75 per 1000 workers,
compared with an industry average of 68.7 per 1000 workers
in the same period.
SOCAM, a member of the Shui On Group, was listed on
the Hong Kong Stock Exchange in 1997 and is engaged
in construction, construction materials and property
development in Hong Kong and the Chinese Mainland. Apart
from SOCAM, the Shui On Group has non-listed property
businesses with investments in Hong Kong, the Chinese
Mainland and New York.
