Hong Kong, February 25, 2003 – Shui On Construction And Materials Limited (SEHK: 0983, “SOCAM”) and leading e-business services provider Global e-Business Services Limited (“GO-Business”), a subsidiary of the listed Computer And Technologies Holdings Limited (SEHK: 0046, “C&T Holdings”), have jointly won the Certificate of Merit at the IT Excellence Award 2002 under the “IT Application Award” category for its Electronic Tendering (e-Tendering) System. Established by the Hong Kong Computer Society in 1998, the annual IT Excellence Awards aims at encouraging and promoting the world class application of information technology in Hong Kong as well as recognizing companies with excellent performance in IT applications and innovation.

According to the judging panel, SOCAM’s e-Tendering System is a pioneering application in the construction industry and offers good service to internal users of the company and its hundreds of contractor partners. Productivity gains arise from reduced tender evaluation and comparison time. It also helps sustain and improve contractor relationship.

The e-Tendering System is one of the key functions of SOCAM.com, which was developed and launched by SOCAM in December 2000 to transform the conventional manual and paper-based work procedures of its construction division to a web-based environment so as to improve quality and productivity. The e-Tendering System leverages the experience of its technology partner, GO-Business, in developing and operating ETS for the Hong Kong SAR Government – the world’s first Government-to-Business Internet-based electronic tendering system – with specific adaptation to the requirements of the construction industry. Tenders for the supply of goods and contracting of works for SOCAM’s construction projects are put on the website for bidding by registered members.
