Safety is very important in the construction industry. Shui On constantly strives to improve site safety by regularly reviewing its work procedures and methods and by conducting frequent training and promotions to raise employees' awareness of occupational health and safety issues. Through its efforts in promoting safety in the workplace, the current accident rate on Shui On sites is just about a quarter of the industry average in Hong Kong.

As a key player in Hong Kong's construction industry, Shui On has always been a pioneer in adopting safety initiatives. The Group set up its Safety Committee in as early as 1979, well ahead of other local building contractors. In 1995, it started conducting audits on all its sites in order to provide benchmarks for continuously improving its safety management before any such contractual requirement or government legislation was introduced. In 2001, Shui On became Hong Kong's first construction company to obtain the Occupational Health and Safety Assessment Series (OHSAS) 18001 certification.

In the first territory-wide Safety Award Scheme on Good Housekeeping for the Construction Industry, Shui On was awarded the Gold Awards in both the private sector and public sector building sites categories in addition to a number of other awards.
